Eurona reminds that connectivity is also key against rural depopulation

The new housing subsidies complement the subsidy of 400 euros to bring Internet to remote areas

Eurona, the telecommunications operator and leading provider of Internet, voice and satellite data services, today recalled the importance of people benefiting from purchase aid in municipalities with less than 5,000 inhabitants contemplated in the new State Plan of Housing approved today by the Government, enjoy a broadband Internet connection that guarantees a real alternative of life and business.

For the inhabitants of these municipalities with these new aid for the purchase of children under 35 in small municipalities complements the "Rural Internet" project that the operator is carrying out with the aim of reducing the digital divide and democratizing Internet access to all the territories of Spain. The aim of Eurona is to cover 2,500 villages in the first phase that currently lack an Internet connection or whose coverage is slow or limited.

Currently around 5 million people located mainly in rural areas, depopulated or difficult terrain are disconnected or their connection is slow and deficient, a situation that can be reversed after the signing of the recent agreement between Eurona and Hispasat, which has turned to the telecommunications company in the operator with the highest satellite capacity in Europe.

These housing aids fit with the 400-euro subsidy program launched by the State Secretariat for the Information Society and the Digital Agenda to bring satellite Internet of 30 megabytes per second to municipalities of less than 5,000 inhabitants. The objective is to fight against the phenomenon of rural depopulation and urban concentration, which maintains half of the Spanish municipalities at risk of extinction, since it is estimated that of the 8,125 villages that exist 4,955 has less than 1,000 inhabitants, according to published data at the INE.
