The small municipality of Fuentes de las Montañas, located in the municipality of Cangas del Narcea, in Asturias, which until now had no mobile coverage and only had a precarious fixed line, already has a high-speed Internet connection thanks to the project 'Rural Internet' of Eurona.
The residents of this town can now make gestures so everyday and so far impossible to engage in conversations with their families through WhatsApp, make video calls or simply access videos over the Internet after the telecommunications company has approached their solution there broadband satellite.
And now the satellite is the only viable and immediate technology to bring the connection to these rural municipalities, depopulated or difficult terrain where other technologies do not arrive due to their limitations or because they are not considered profitable. In addition, the alliance sealed with Hispasat after the launch of two new satellites expands Eurona's satellite capacity, a key aspect to democratize Internet access in all the nuclei that have so far been 'disconnected' in Spain.
Asturias has not wanted to turn its back on this situation of 'disconnection' or digital divide suffered by a part of its population and has begun to bring the Internet closer to its neighbors in the Cangas area. Thus, in collaboration with the city councils, they will soon focus on the areas with the worst connection.
According to the mayor of Cangas, "what we want is that our neighbors, our companies that are located in the rural world, can be connected. Also that local companies, tourism houses, livestock ... can sell their products and above all also answer their customers", he concludes.
