Why will the satellite be key to the development of 5G?

On the occasion of the Space & Industrial Seville Virtual Summit, a meeting that brings together the main actors in the space sector

Eurona, the leading Spanish telecommunications multinational in bringing satellite connectivity to rural, inaccessible or disconnected areas, wanted to explain why the satellite will be key to the development and implementation of 5G on the occasion of the Space & Industrial Seville Virtual Summit, a meeting in which it will participate over the next few days and which will bring together the main players in the space sector and ministers such as Teresa Ribera and Pedro Duque.

Bearing in mind that 5G will be a network of networks that will connect objects and people wherever they are, and that the main telecommunications operators have already announced that it will be available in 75% of the territory in the coming months, the satellite is being proposed as a key and complementary technology to meet the coverage and capacity requirements of this new mobile generation.

The satellite will be able to bring 5G coverage to the entire territory

The satellite's global coverage will make it possible to provide connectivity services at any point on Earth and to the entire population regardless of their geographical location, thus avoiding the gap between connected and unconnected citizens. In this way, this technology is positioned as a complement to extend the 5G connection where terrestrial networks do not reach.

Fast, affordable connection without major infrastructure

High-performance satellites have increased the capacity of connectivity services, offering a competitive service in terms of cost and efficiency. Furthermore, their installation is very fast and does not require the deployment of large infrastructures, which facilitates the extension of 5G coverage to unpopulated areas or areas with difficult terrain immediately.

A quality 5G connection, even under extreme conditions

The satellite's global coverage makes it possible to provide high-capacity services at any point on Earth, without interference, guaranteeing continuity even in extreme conditions and emergency situations such as natural disasters.

The satellite and 5G, towards services in mobility

Due to its characteristics, the satellite will facilitate 5G in services in mobility, such as in the autonomous car or in the maritime sector. In this way, with the arrival of 5G, telecommunications operators evolve and establish themselves not only as connection providers but also as solution and service providers.

The 5G satellite link will make it possible to connect different sectors, from industry and transport to infrastructure, agriculture, health and entertainment. All this will make it possible to obtain real-time data that will make decision-making more efficient.

Satellite technology, a critical role in the "España Digital 2025" strategy. All these features, such as global and immediate coverage, distribution capacity and continuity in extreme circumstances, together with the transformation and continuous investment in innovation that the space sector is undergoing, will allow companies such as Eurona to tackle the "España Digital 2025" Plan which envisages that, by 2025, 100% of the population will have access to a connection speed of at least 100Mbps.
