Eurona, the Spanish telecommunications multinational expert in on-board connectivity solutions and services, aims to reduce with satellite technology the digital divide that currently affects a large number of Spanish vessels. Eurona's satellite solution, capable of providing quality internet connection to the Spanish fleet, will be presented at stand A38 - pavilion 1, at the eighth edition of Navalia, the international naval industry trade fair to be held at the Instituto Ferial de Vigo (IFEVI) on 24, 25 and 26 May.
At present, only a small percentage of Spanish vessels have a quality Internet connection that allows remote management of the ship and guarantees the crew an immediate and direct means of communication with their families and with the life they leave behind on land.
This digital divide affects and penalises the economic activity of the Spanish fleet, made up of more than 9,880 ships, according to data from Vessel Finder. The strong potential of the maritime sector in Spain places our country as the second power in blue economy in the European Union, according to data from the latest report The Blue Economy 2021 prepared by the European Commission.
In order to put an end to this connection deficit and boost the digitalisation of such a powerful sector as the maritime sector in Spain, Eurona will present its on-board Internet service at Navalia. It is a broadband solution for the mobility sector that allows connection speeds of up to 100 megabytes, thanks to satellite technology, enabling Internet access, data transmission and voice/IP connections within a global coverage radius.
The ship's crew can continue their "life on land" on the high seas with this state-of-the-art satellite technology. Despite being thousands of kilometres away from land, they can send Whatsapp, talk on Skype, access telemedicine services, receive and send emails, and even enjoy entertainment services.
